Description
Turquoise, the oldest stone in Man’s history.
This is a necklace of Turquoise shapes and chips with silver cups, spacers and peacock grey 6mm freshwater pearls. It has two tassels at the front. Threaded by hand to 19″ with a silver extender chain.
The word Turquoise comes from the french word Turquois, meaning “Turkish”, because the mineral was first brought to Europe through Turkey.
Turquoise has been used through time in many cultures of the Old and New Worlds. For thousands of years, it was thought of as a holy stone, a bringer of good fortune or a talisman. THe oldest evidence of the stone is from Ancient Egypt, where tombs of Kings were discovered with turquoise inlay jewellery and decoration.
